Course Title: World History
Course Description: This required course for Social Studies is taken in the Freshman or Sophomore year. Strong emphasis is placed on the developing of reading, writing, note-taking, research, critical thinking, and geography skills. Students will examine major civilizations, events, people, and places. We will cover the history associated with the development of western civilizations from prehistory to the mid-20th Century.
Required Materials: Spiral, pen and pencil, folder, textbook
Assignments:
Participation: Participation is not only mandatory, but necessary. Class discussions of topics and class activities are a vital ingredient to the learning process. If the student does not participate it will not only hinder his or her learning, but the learning of others.
Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Only one absence will be allowed during each 3 week semester. Additional absences will need to be approved by the school office.

Assignments:
- Students must complete assigned readings for each day of the class. These readings are critical to the development of the student’s content knowledge as well as the subsequent lecture, discussions, and learning activities.
- Daily homework assignments will be given to support the chapter readings and are necessary for the following day’s discussion.
- Quizzes will be used regularly as a means of assessing student progress and understanding. Quizzes may or may not be announced prior to the assessment.
- Tests will be given at the end of each week. A final exam will be given at the end of each semester (3 weeks).

- Marian Catholic places great emphasis on the building of character and the development of a personal moral code. Students are expected to be honest in their dealings with others. Dishonesty such as cheating, forging signatures, stealing or possession of stolen property, plagiarism, or willful lying is considered a serious offense and subject to disciplinary consequences.
Classroom Rules:
- Attend to personal needs before coming to class.
- Raise your hand before you speak.
- Remain in your seat unless you have permission to get up. Throw scraps and trash away at the end of the period on our way out.
- Use polite speech and body language. Unkind teasing and impolite behavior is unacceptable.
- Nothing goes airborne.
